Conversphere is an outdoor installation-performance commissioned by the event EX SCULPTURA : Symposium et exposition de sculptures éphémères in Montréal, September 7-8 2018. The symposium is a unifying event by ProjectEX that brings together citizens and artists through live artistic creation.
The public was invited to watch the installation being built over two days, and then demolished on the third day. A movement performance improvisation was presented at the vernissage.
Then, the project took on a life of it’s own. The public interacted with it, by moving it around and posting on social media. Through the support of the City of Montréal and the generous contribution of Transit it has become a permanent installation.
The sculpture is constantly transforming as new bumper layers are weaved to co-create with the public's modifications of tagging, graffiti, and climbing.
Experiments with spontaneous improvisational performances are ongoing. One notable improv performance is the quartet with Gabriela Petrov and Damaris Baker et Géraldine Eguiluz using metal objects, gongs, and Tibetan bowls.
CONVERSPHERE is a compound from the words: convert, convert, vert (French for green), converge, converse, convex, concave, versus, universe, sphere, ère ( French for era). PARE- CHOC is French for bumper.
